Celebrating the Arts in San Bernardino
March and April 2010
Dream the Dream
by Linda Phelps-Young
Artist Linda Phelps-Young was born in Riverside, California. Painting is my Passion.
I began to study Art at an early age. My background is in Graphics, Illustration,
and Fashion Design. I studied Art at Ventura College and received an AA
degree in Commerical Art. I also studied Fashion Illustration and Design
at Woodbury Univeristy.
Currently I have created a line of Greeting Cards of Vintage Portraits, Floral and Ethnic Series. In my most recent work, I wanted to honor Our Ladies of Blues with a series of paintings of Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Josephine Baker, Ethel Waters, and Ella Fitzgerald.
I would consider myself a colorist and I admire the works of the Impressionist Painters. I have participated in many local Art and Craft Fairs. Presently my Greeting Cards, Art Prints, and Paper and Cloth Sculpting are available at the Riverside Metropolitan Art Museum Gift Shop.
I've spent the better part of my life searching for my passion - Graphics, Fashion Design, and Illustration I like, but that which brings me joy is painting. To quote Suzanne Valadon "I paint with the stubbornness I need for living, and I've found that all painters who love their art do the same." I enjoy working with color and I hope my Art brings joy to those who view it. My vision is making Art filled with Creative Possiblities.
